BC’s Ministry of Transportation has revealed the details regarding its MELT (Mandatory Entry-Level Training) program for commercial drivers on March 31, 2021.
And as of October 18, 2021, the BC Ministry of Transportation has announced that drivers taking the class 1 road test must undergo a strict training session that meets the minimum requirement of 150 hours set by the NSC – National Safety Code Standard.
The training session contains 50 hours of practical sessions behind the wheels (on the highway), 37 hours of in-yard training and theory class guidelines. Moreover, BC has 15.5 hours of theory and hands-on air brake training, nearly double the 8.5 hours mandated by NSC standard 16.
